Grace Eats!

I'm happy to be catching you up on end of April on, "What Grace is doing?". It was a big month in April for a lot of reasons! We were able to travel up to see Nona, which is my husband's mom. She is 90, lives on her own, occassionally drives, is always in the kitchen cooking something! It was nice to see her and Grace loves her nona and enjoys hanging out with her.

Perhaps it was the upper-state NY air, but Grace did so well EATING!! (Okay, maybe it was just being around "Nona", who has always asked "when is the gtube coming out? will she have that forever?" Of course, my answer always is "she will have it for as long as she needs it." Trust me, it's a goal of ours to be rid of it but let's be honest if it is a supplement to her diet needs than it is a must that she have it. YES, Grace eats by mouth and swallows; however, right now she doesn't eat enough for food to just be her only nutrition!

This being said.. Grace has been eating great, since New York.

In New York, she loved Nona's meatballs.. for awhile, Grace has always loved eating ground hamburg, beef or at Nona's the meatballs were made with ground chicken. When I tell you she loved the meatballs, she ate at least 2 (large, homemade meatballs) nightly for dinner three days in a row!! We all know Grace loves her BBQ chips..and signs "orange" to describe when she wants her chips. We go to #Aldi's and she loves the Clancy BBQ Chips and knows just where to look for them in the chip aisle. But while in NY, when we visited Aldi's she picked out the sour cream & onion (mama's favorite) and has been picking that one out the last couple of times since we've been home. I also think she may sign 'bbq chips' for just meaning she wants to eat. I tend to give her chips for a snack during the day, when she asks for it. But more for dinner, I give her a small serving of chips but whatever we are eating, cut up in small bites. She is doing great with every dinner and lunch on the weekends; even breakfasts. It's awesome to watch how much she wants to eat.. our hope is it continues.

So besides eating, Grace has been doing TONS of Walking.. she uses her walker to go into appointments, recently to go to church (where she walked up the church aisle and loved it!!) April was just a really fantastic month for Grace! She's getting taller and older.. makes me want her to go back to being a baby..(as most Mom's regress!) but I love watching Ms. Independent come out as well!!

Picture is from a "percussion park" we visited in Ny.. soo cool!!

We have a great team of people who care for her and that's always a plus too! We meet monthly or so and really get on the same page of supporting her needs together. Thank you to Pam, Melissa, Paula & Peter, Joanne & George and her school team! (Oh, and Amy too!)

Thanks for keeping up with Grace's adventures!
