Every year since I met my husband (which is 14!!) we have traveled to upper state New York to visit his parents on Thanksgiving. We started with Grace when she was about 3. she is 9.. and this year, nope.. a staycation is in order instead. I'm sad about it to be honest. My mother-in-law, Grace's only living grandparent is 89.. she's restless (as many of our older friends are these days), somewhat depressed and full of anxiety (Covid is the cause for sure).. so with just 'never knowing' .. I'm sad we can't go visit. Trust me, it certainly can be challenging to travel by car with a 9 year old Special Needs child for 8 hours..but once she realizes where we are going, and can sleep for some of the ride (which doesn't always happen)..she loves getting out. :( Not this year!
Before New York made the 'do not visit, RED state" at 12:01am on November 14, 2020 - we were planning on going, but Toni (my MIL) had decided Friday evening (the 13th), she didn't really want us to go. We were going to go anyway..we've all been tested, she was recently tested as well. But as COVID would have it.. New York became a red state... which means if we went we'd have to give Grace a covid test upon coming back or keep her out of school for 14 days - nope. Not going to do that. She thrives with school and that's not going to happen.
So we'll make the best of it. I very rarely take vacation days unless I'm going somewhere.. I've always been like that. In my job, we are always busy.. and I like working.. but there's been some turmoil and negativeness at my job, so I will welcome the break.. H (said husband) & I have at least one day trip planned..the other two days we'll do stuff around the house (because there's always stuff to do, right?).
Hope this covid thing ends soon.. which I think this is the new normal :(
